FAQ

What is paramedical tattoo camouflage?

Paramedical tattoo camouflage is a specialized cosmetic tattoo technique designed to help reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and areas of discoloration by blending them more naturally with the surrounding skin tone.

Can I tan with a camouflage tattoo?

Yes. Many clients are still able to tan after camouflage tattooing and experience a significant improvement in how the treated area blends with the surrounding tanned skin compared to the original hypopigmented scar.

For best long-term results, proper sun protection and daily SPF are strongly recommended – just avoid serious burning to the treated area.

How many sessions will I need?

Every client heals differently. Most camouflage projects require multiple sessions to gradually build the most natural-looking result. Treatment plans at Vital Skin Studio include 3 sessions to start. Additional sessions may be recommended based on the area being treated, skin characteristics, and healing response.

Will my scar or stretch marks completely disappear?

Am I a candidate for camouflage tattooing?

No cosmetic tattoo procedure can completely erase the texture of the scar or stretch mark. While the needling application of the treatment may help slightly improve the texture over time, the primary goal of camouflage tattooing is to reduce the color contrast between the affected area and the surrounding skin for a softer, more blended appearance.

How old do scars or stretch marks need to be before treatment?

Eligibility depends on several factors including scar maturity, texture, skin condition, discoloration type, and overall healing health. Consultation and assessment photos are required before treatment approval.

Does camouflage tattooing work on all skin tones?

At least 12 months old.

Camouflage tattooing can be performed on a wide range of skin tones; however, not every scar or discoloration responds the same way. Results vary based on skin characteristics, pigment retention, and healing response.

What happens if I become pregnant after booking?

Will the results look natural?

The goal of camouflage tattooing is to create a soft, natural-looking blend with the surrounding skin. Results heal gradually over multiple sessions and are customized to each client’s skin tone and scar characteristics.

Is camouflage tattooing permanent?

The human body is a living canvas. Camouflage tattooing is considered long-lasting; however, pigment may fade over time due to sun exposure, skincare products, skin regeneration, lifestyle, and individual healing factors. Periodic touch-ups may be desired in the future.

Does the procedure hurt?

Pain tolerance varies from person to person and depends on the treatment area. Most clients describe the procedure as manageable, though some areas may be more sensitive than others.

What is the healing process like?

Healing varies by client and treatment area. Mild redness, dryness, sensitivity, or flaking may occur initially. Full healing and true pigment retention can take several weeks, which is why sessions are spaced appropriately apart.

Can camouflage tattooing be performed over raised scars?

Some raised or highly textured scars may not be suitable candidates for camouflage tattooing. In certain cases, additional scar revision treatments may be recommended before camouflage is considered.

What should I avoid before my appointment?

Clients will be advised to avoid tanning, excessive sun exposure, active skincare treatments, or over the counter blood thinners prior to treatment. Detailed pre-care instructions will be provided before your appointment.

Camouflage procedures are not recommended during pregnancy. Existing appointments may be postponed and credited toward a future session after pregnancy.
